Me at falls

Me, wanting to go home after six hours of family togetherness.

We went to the Snoqualmie Casino for breakfast and ate for about three hours. No joke. I recommend the bacon it’s delish. My Kelly is absent from the pictures because he was on a bachelor party weekend.

Grad School
I started grad school in City U’s Master in Teaching one year (11 months) program last week. The program is great because it compresses what is typically a two year program into one year. I knew it would be extremely demanding. After doing homework today for over three hours and not seeming to scratch the surface I’m realizing that it really is demanding. One of my professors has a saying, “It’s only eleven months but it’s eleven months.” I have a feeling I’m going to be living and breathing school for the next ten months and three weeks…

Goats!

Here are some pictures of Carmel and Lulu actually in our yard where they belong. I learned that the really like carrots and any other fruit or vegetable. So I’ve been hand feeding them and now they associate me with yummy food. Which means they’ll actually walk up to me now and I can pet them. Yay!

Carmel is totally my favorite. She’s way more friendly and you can’t help but love her little goat face. Don’t you just want to give it a big kiss?! Hmmm, is there such a thing as “Goat Flu?”

Our Front Door

I have always hated our front door. It’s just plain ugly.

Front Door 006

Front Door 007

Look at it! Ug! The inside is super nice but the outside has been neglected and is cracked and nasty. So I decided to sand the crap out of it, prime it and paint it red. I’ve always thought red front doors were so really cool.

So yesterday after finishing up sanding I primed the door. Just so you know the primer color for painting is like a hot pink.

Front Door 008

Unfortunately it got dark and started sprinkling so I could only do one coat of primer. I thought I would be able to put on another coat today and maybe a coat of red but it’s raining so our neighbors get to stare at a hot pink front door until the weather gets better.

New Shed

Since we have a carport not a garage we’ve been storing our lawn mower etc. (Etc. is a lot of crap) in our basement and carport. Last weekend Kelly bought a shed and his mom and brother came over to help him put it up. I was conveniently at a UW softball game. ;-)

*Kelly wanted me to tell you that he is not that fat. He was being silly.

Yard Work

There is a ton of yard work at our house that I want to do. So it’s too bad we’re not made of money and that I can’t just be a “lady of the house” and not work. I have had time for a few projects though that I’m proud of.

Front Door 001

This is the walk way in front of our house that was FULL of irises. It took me over an hour to dig them all out. I planted boxwood and eventually it’ll just be a long, big bush.

Front Door 002

This is right in front of our front door. There was a nasty, rhododendron here that was shrivels and dying. So I chopped it up and Kelly chain sawed it down to the ground. I planted a hydrangea, tulips and hyacinths here. The worst part was edging. Oh my gosh it took FOREVER! And putting in that black border thing was a pain.

I eventually want to raise the front yard and put a white picket fence up but we’ll see when/if that happens.

New "professional" Hair

I decided that I should cut my hair A) because it would look more professional and B) I was putting off showering because it took so much time to dry my hair. I’m going to blame societal norms that say we have to shower as often as we do. ;-)

Cough into your Sleeve - Please!

This is a pet peeve of mine when people cough or sneeze into their hands. I'm watching breaking news about the H1-N1 virus otherwise known as the swine flu even though you can't get it from eating pork) Please if you're not already cough into your sleeve. Here is a fun, educational video to tell you why and how to do this. Enjoy.

City U Orientation

Today I attended orientation for the One Year Master in Teaching program at City U in Bellevue. It was better than I though it would be but there were of course the stupid people that asked a lot of unnecessary questions like what do we do if the parking lot is full and we can’t find a place to park? Yes, someone actually asked that.

Different faculty advisers droned on and on about boring school stuff like financial aid and class schedules. My ears finally perked up when the subject of placements for our internships and student teaching came up. The guy in charge of this said,

“If you told us you’re interested in primary grades (kindergarten to 3rd) then for your first internship you’re going to be in middle school.”

I thought he was kidding. He wasn’t. So for my first internship I’ll be in a middle school. This is actually a good idea because maybe I’ll like middle school more than I think and we are earning a Kindergarten through 8th grade certificate so we need to know how stuff works in middle schools. I’ll find out next Monday where I’ll get to do my first internship. Thank goodness the guy that sets up our placements takes in consideration where we live so none of us will have to commute too far.

So in one year I will have three internships that are about a month each then I’ll student teach for about two months. I can’t wait!

Who would have thought you could purchase City U boxers for only $14.99!? I think I’ll pass…

Giving Blood

I donated blood this morning (Puget Sound Blood Center in Bellevue) and happen to be reading the Twilight book series. It’s about teenage vampires and they all live in Forks, WA. It happens to be a super popular series.

When the one of the technicians was asking me if I’ve done drugs, had sex with someone for money or drugs etc. She asked me what I was reading. Then she said that last week Puget Sound Blood Center did a blood drive at Forks High School. Apparently all of the students dressed up as vampires to donate. She had read the books too and was bummed that as a technician wasn’t allowed to dress up.

Escape Goats Part 2
I was home one afternoon by myself when the doorbell rang. I thought it was Kelly not wanting to unlock the front door so I ignored it. Then there was a knock at the door. I decided to answer it. I ran down the stairs and opened the door to a short, portly bald man.

"Hi there! I'm George!" He said shaking my hand. He totally seemed like he was there to sell me something. Then he said,

"Your sheep got out and their in my backyard, it's okay though because their just eating my grass."

"Oh you mean my goats?" I replied. I don't know how you could confuse sheep with goats but whatever.

George lives right behind us so I quickly put my shoes on, ran out the back door and pushed out fence aside to try and capture our sheep/goats. I thought that George would help me get the goats especially since the goats could easily escape to the street in front of his house. But no, he just watched me run around his yard yelling at the goats and chasing them until finally and tackled Carmel and grabbed on to her fur and collar. I dragged her to the fence and booted her through. Lulu decided to give up on freedom and followed her back to our backyard. They then ran to our uprooted tree and gave me the stink eye. Carmel thought it would be good to pee and give me the stink eye.

We might not have the goats for that much longer. I don't like chasing goats.
