We are Proud Goat Owners

Today my dad and I drove all the way out to Eatonville to look at two goats to clear our back yard. They both looked really healthy and fat. They had also just been de-wormed, had their horns and hooves trimmed. The lady we bought them from told me that a guy had come out to take a look at the goats a few days ago. Apparently he told her that he, “could make them nicely.” Meaning he could fix them up as a nice dish to eat! So she retraced her offer to him. I assured her we would not be eating the goats.

So my dad and I loaded Carmel and Lulu in the back of his truck and we could hear them bleating for a few miles down the road until they calmed down. I also bought a bale of orchard hay for them. But they already started mucking on our blackberry brambles. It was kind of fun buying a bale of hay.

So far I have learned that they are very strong and will drag me with them when they want to run. They poop and pee a lot and they like to be up high on top of things.

I plan on selling the goats after they’ve served their purpose of getting rid of our blackberry brambles and overgrown bushes.

Goats!

The house Kelly and I bought had been empty for about two years. The inside is in good shape but the backyard of our house is kind of like a jungle. There are a ton of blackberry brambles, tall grass and weeds. There is also a giant evergreen tree that fell over two years ago that is still there. Just laying there. Oh yes, there’s also a maple tree so that means lots of big leaves all over the place. Suffice it to say there is a lot of plant growth that needs to go. Being the thinker that I am I thought about renting goats to clear the yard. However it’s kind of expensive. Sooooo, we’re going to buy a pair of goats!

Nigerian Goat

I’m heading out to Eatonville tomorrow with my Dad (and his big truck) to meet Lulu and Carmel. They are two female Nigerian goats. I’m so excited I hope I can sleep tonight!

Mail Mix-Up

Right after we moved into our new house I went to the post office and changed mine and Kelly’s address. I carefully filled out the change of address forms. Some of my mail is still sent to my parent’s house so I filled out a form for that. Also a lot of Kelly’s mail is still sent to his parents house so I filled one out for him. I filled out a third form for the both of us from our apartment address.

A few days past and we started getting mail at our new house. Yay, mission accomplished.

Last night however I was curled up on the couch watching Law & Order when Kelly walked in and asked,

“Did you fill out a change of address form for me?”

“Yeah, why?” I responded.

“Well, because my parents just got a letter from the post office saying they’ve been evicted from their mailbox and that we will be receiving all of the mail from now on.”

Hmmmmmmmmmmm. So when I was filling out Kelly’s change of address form there were two boxes you could check. One for an “individual” and one for “family.” I might have checked the one for family when filling our the one moving Kelly’s mail from his parents.

Whoops.

Something To Read

I have about a half an hour between legs of my morning route on Wednesdays. I always try to bring a book with me to read while I wait. This morning on the way to work I realized I had forgotten to grab my book. When I got to the Transportation Office I searched for magazines in the driver’s room. Another driver, Brian picked up that I was looking for something to read. Keep in mind he’s from London so he has an awesome British accent.

Brian: “Oh let me check my locker I have lots of books in there.”

Katie: “Thanks Brian.”

I follow Brian to his locker and he pulls a book out.

Brian: “How about a book about dogs?!”

Katie: “Um, no thanks.”

Brian: “How about a book about Charles Darwin?!”

Katie: “No thanks, I’m not a huge Darwin fan.”

Oh yes, there’s more…

Brian: “What about the Secret Life of Bees?!”

Katie: “Oh darn, I read that (total lie, I just don’t want any of his weird books) thank you though.”

Brian: “Are you sure?”

Katie: “Yes, thank you so much for looking though.”

Bellevue Youth Theater Gala & Auction

Kelly and I got to go to the Bellevue Youth Theater Gala & Auction at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue last Saturday night. One of his co workers puts it on every year. It was quite a fancy event. I’m glad I at least put on a skirt and nicer sweater. However I didn’t get the memo that anyone who is anyone should wear a black cocktail dress. Oh well. There were people walking around serving wine and they would take your empty glass! Dinner was awesome too and some dude went around and put dressing on your salad for you! That was a first for me. My second first for the evening was the auction. I have never been to a live auction. This lady did the whole auctioneer thing and was awesome at it. I knew we weren’t actually going to buy any of the items so I just made sure to be the first bid on everything so that I could raise my number up and get the lady to say that she had an opening bid. That was the best part of the night.

Cardinals Vs. Steelers

I will forever dislike the Steelers for when they “beat” (Let’s be honest, we all watched the game and the refs obviously made horrible calls and had been bought) the Seahawks in the 2006 Superbowl. So…

GO CARDINALS!!!

Even jesus hates the steelers

Whoops...
I might have accidently knocked my Grey’s Anatomy CD into the toilet today. I quickly fished it out, set it on the counter. Then Sprinkles the cat started licking the water off of it. Ick. Enough said.

Presidential Facts

Air Force One

Did you know that the original Air Force One jet was made in Renton, WA? Pretty cool huh. Also any plane that carries the President of the United State’s call sign is, “Air Force One.”

Morning
Worship Service

The tradition of attending a morning worship service on Inauguration Day began with Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933.

Procession to
the Capitol

By tradition, the outgoing President accompanies the President-elect to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony.

Departure of the
Outgoing President

Following the inaugural ceremony on the west  front of the U.S. Capitol, the outgoing President and First Lady leave the Capitol to begin their post-presidential lives.

Here is the presidential oath:

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.
